Therefore, this design features kuih raya in subliminal ways reminiscing Eid before covid. It also signifies celebrating and visiting during Eid in a very different way this year.
Before covid, Eid is meant to be a time of celebration and spending quality time with family and friends. No Hari Raya would be complete without delicious food and desserts. It is also common to see cookie jars filled with various types of biscuits and cakes that come in different shapes and tastes, known as ‘kuih raya’. Nearly the whole country takes a week off to go back to their hometown known as ‘balik kampung’. Well, the typical routine of “balik kampung” has changed. Hence, this collection.
Kuih raya represents silaturrahim. It’s a tradition to serve/eat kuih raya when visiting family members/friends during raya. Don’t forget your loved ones. Helping/doing good to them if they’re in need. Keep them close to your heart and always get in touch. Encourage people to join silaturrahim the best we could.
Imam al-Nawawi said: “As for the meaning of silaturrahim, it means doing good to one’s family members (kin) according to the situation of the person who is trying to join the silaturrahim as well as the person who he is trying to join the silaturrahim with. Sometimes it can be through monetary help, physical help, visits, offering salam and others.” (See al-Minhaj fi Syarh Sahih Muslim Ibn al-Hajjaj, 1/287)
When the Prophet Muhammad SAW arrives in Medina, he said:
أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَفْشوا السَّلامَ، وَأَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ، وصلوا الأرحام وَصَلُّوا باللَّيْل وَالنَّاسُ نِيامٌ، تَدخُلُوا الجَنَّةَ بِسَلامٍ
“O people, spread (the greeting of) Salam, offer food to people and pray at night when people are sleeping, you will enter Paradise in peace.”
(Sunan Ibnu Majah, 3251)
Someone asked the Holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam), “What is the way of saving oneself in the Hereafter?” He replied: “You maintain the ties (of relationship) with the one who severed it with you, you give to the one who deprived you, and you forgive the one who wronged you.”
(Tirmidhi)
Abu Ayyub Ansiri reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: “It is not permissible for a Muslim to have estranged relations with his brother beyond three nights, the one turning one way and the other turning the other way when they meet ; the better of the two is one who is the first to give a greeting.”
